Bogotá, Colombia – June 20, 2025 – In a landmark decision for the conservation of the continent's natural heritage, the Andean Parliament has officially recognized the “El Perezoso” Botanical Garden as an ecological stronghold and a center for scientific and educational knowledge in the Andean and Amazonian regions.
The initiative was presented by Andean Parliamentarian Ing. Juan Carlos Ramírez, who emphasized the biological, cultural, and educational significance of this garden located in the Peruvian Amazon. The resolution, signed by the Board of the Andean Parliament, highlights that “El Perezoso” is a key site for the study, preservation, and dissemination of biodiversity in the member countries of the organization: Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.
Órbita, the current owner and manager of the “El Perezoso” Botanical Garden —and a member of ONLB GROUP— has taken on the responsibility of revitalizing and expanding this natural space, transforming it into a strategic project for conservation, environmental education, and sustainable development with continental scope. This recognition by the Andean Parliament validates the efforts to position “El Perezoso” as a living reference of Peru’s Amazonian ecological and scientific potential.
With over 20,000 registered plant species, many of them endemic and of high medicinal, nutritional, and ornamental value, the “El Perezoso” Botanical Garden has become a center for inspiration, knowledge, and environmental awareness for thousands of visitors, students, researchers, and local communities. It also offers educational experiences for children, scientific tourism programs, and comprehensive sustainability initiatives.
