Órbita and the Lima and Callao Urban Transport Chamber Lead a Groundbreaking Transformation of Public Transit: Innovation, Sustainability, and Efficiency for a New Era of Urban Mobility

Lima, February 12, 2025 – With the participation of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Urban Transport Authority (ATU), the Lima and Callao Urban Transport Chamber, and the team from Órbita, the official launch of a historic transformation in Peru’s public transit system was celebrated. This initiative, led by Órbita and the Urban Transport Chamber, aims to modernize urban transportation with a forward-thinking model based on technology, sustainability, and social inclusion.

Key innovations include:

• Energy matrix transition: replacing diesel buses with units powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), significantly cutting down on harmful emissions and improving air quality.
• Installation of in-bus television screens, creating a modern platform for communication, entertainment, and passenger information.
• Contactless card payment system, streamlining boarding and enhancing user experience.
• Fleet-wide GPS integration, enabling smart fleet management, optimized route scheduling, and greater operational efficiency.
• AI-powered security cameras on buses and at stations, capable of detecting suspicious behavior and strengthening real-time passenger safety.
• Smart bus stops with digital signage, live tracking, lighting, and connectivity, providing a safe and modern user experience.
• Launch of the "Ciudad Órbita Smart Trip Card", a smart fare payment system that not only enhances transportation access but also drives financial inclusion among historically underserved communities.

Órbita played a central role in the design and implementation of this ambitious system, contributing across technological, economic, and environmental dimensions.
